We arrived in Espanola- tired but very happy to get a break from driving!!

Hi everyone,
We arrrived in Espanola about 10:30 pm local time from an early morning start- the back-track north to see the Grand Canyon meant that we would arrive later at McCurdy School than our original plan. The weather is again spectacular and everyone is still in a good mood!
Here is the group last night out for a Mexican dinner in Flagstaff- very yummy stuff.

And some of the gang at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon- it is really breath taking and worth the trip for all of us.

Lee posing by the edge.

Thanks to everyone who has sent emails or has posted here on the blog site- it is great to get encouraging comments and to pass them on.
We are up early tomorrow morning for a 7:00 am breakfast and then starting our first day of work at 8. We are McCurdy's first work team of 2009 and they seem quite pleased to have us- our living space is the old school dorm and is very comfortable and cozy- and we sleep in a real bed tonight!!
I will be getting youth to start posting again- I have tried but everyone has been so tired and reliable wireless internet connections have been patchy at times.
But we have a great connection at the school so prepare for enhanced blog entries coming soon!!!
Dan

  1. Hi New Mexico gang!
It's so much fun looking at all of your pictures and reading about your adventures. We're missing you lots, but glad that you're having fun with no mishaps or incidents. The weather is definitely not as nice here as it is where you are, although it's warming up quite a bit and the snow is really starting to disappear. Kamloops will be brown instead of white when you return! Tell Ben and Jocelyn that we miss them, but glad that they're having fun. We'll miss them while we're at Sun Peaks skiing for the next 4 days! Keep having fun everyone, and keep posting those pictures and stories.
    Hasta la vista!

  2. Good Morning Crew!
We hope you had a good nights sleep in your regular beds! It's so interesting to check the mail every morning and get your updates and pictures. I hope everyone is journaling their experiences and stories. I can hardly wait to hear what's coming next. The sun is shining here this morning but the temperature is about 1 degree! That is an improvement!! Have a wonderful day! Love Grandma (Sandra Pryce)

I hope that this finds you all very well in Espanola! After a hard day's work we understand!
You're missing some mighty cold winds, more snow and cool temps again here! Boohoo!
Enjoy the sun and warmth while you can...knowing you are a bit higher in elevation now means a bit cooler than the great weather of Vegas, Flagstaff! Well, some of us are luckier than others!
Sounds like you're all working for your dinner now for the next few days! Hope the food is distinctly Mexican, hmm miss that!
Know that we're all enjoying the stories and photos and word is from a very reliable source that you are all getting along famously! Yeah!
Enjoy your time NOT in the van!

  4. Hi to the weary travellers; especially Ben and Jocelyn We're pleased that you arrived safely and had more than a little fun along the way. A good night's sleep will set you up for the "work experience". Be sure to practice what Spanish you know and learn some new words. Make some new friends, learn some new games and eat some different food. I'm envious! Take lots of pictures and keep blogging. Love and Blessings to you and your crew. Granny and Granddad.

  8. When the waters come - what will they be growing down there? Do you have any local youth on your digging team? Glad to hear you saw part of the Grand Canyon and some cliff dwellings. Keep up the good work and your spirits. Cheerio, Joy
